OPENING: October 17th, 2013, 6-9pm
Exhibition Dates: October 17 to November 23, 2013
In Connected, Julie Peppito's third solo exhibit at Heskin Contemporary, opening October 17th, she presents detailed and intimate works about a monumental subject: Everything is connected.
In her Connected Portraits, and other hybrid sculptures and drawings, Peppito stitches and wraps found objects together that she and her subjects collect to create tapestry-like masses, then blends them with intricate patterns, fine lines, and carefully drawn microcosms. The densely layered works make metaphorical connections that reflect both an appreciation for and aversion to possessions at a time when our habits of consumption have a profound effect on the fate of our planet. They evoke the beauty and degradation of all the stuff that passes through our lives - some to be kept forever, some lost or tossed away, all eventually becoming part of our collective history of garbage.
In keeping with her commitment to connection and participation, Peppito is donating 10% of the money collected from each piece to Hurricane Sandy and Climate Change relief efforts.
